Guest blog: What my late father told me

I’m pleased to say that today’s guest blog has been contributed by Adrienne Harrison-Cottrell, who is joining the Centre therapists. Her first session with us is on Tuesday 12th July and it is booking up already! Here’s what she has to say about her therapies and why she practises them.

My late father used to say – “if you don’t want to do a day’s work in your life, find something you love and it will never feel like work” – how right he was! However, I just wish I hadn’t waited until I was in my 40’s to take note.

So how do I come to be doing something every day that I love?

Nearly 20 years ago I went through a lengthy period of ill-health. Some days were so bad I would end up spending the day lying on the bathroom floor as I was too ill to make it back to the bedroom. I had exhausted all orthodox remedies and was told by the medical profession that I just had to “amend my lifestyle” to allow for the ill health. I was only 26. I was ill, exhausted and depressed. I tried “amending my lifestyle” but I had a job, a husband, family responsibilities and a home to care for, “putting up with it” wasn’t an option!

This lead me to search for alternatives and eventually I was given the number of a Kinesiologist. I was sceptical and to be honest somewhat nervous before that first appointment but after seeing the Practitioner and applying her recommendations within 6 weeks I was a different woman!

Now, don’t get me wrong. It wasn’t a “magic wand”. I had to make some temporary dietary and lifestyle changes and some were pretty hard! However, the results spoke for themselves and this spurred me on to learn more about how it worked and if it could help others I knew.

For several years I studied on and off around family and financial commitments until finally a fabulous opportunity presented itself to consolidate my learning and set up Health and Healing For All. In the beginning I worked mainly mobile, then from my home and in January 2015 we moved into small premises in the centre of Carlisle, then in August 2015 due to demand, we moved into new, larger premises, at No 2 Cecil Street, Carlisle, CA1 1NL. In 2016 the business expanded again and we began offering services in the Midlands at various “pop-up” clinics including The Amethyst Centre, Coventry (www.amethystcentre.co.uk), Daventry and Northampton.

The Kinesiology Practitioner I had seen also recommended I try Reflexology treatments and I found these to be a fabulously comforting and balancing treatment for me and an excellent complement to the Kinesiology treatments and felt sure my clients would feel the same way so I studied and qualified in Reflexology with the excellent Athena School of Natural Therapies in the West Midlands (www.athenaschool.co.uk)

I then travelled to Dublin and studied Babyreflex. I now have the enormous privilege of teaching parents reflexology techniques for use on their own babies and toddlers. Babyreflex can aid sleeping, digestion and help with the bonding of parent and child.

My love affair with Reflexology continued with me qualifying in Conception/Fertility and Maternity Reflexology at the Zen Holistic Training Studio and since then have had a special interest in supporting mums to be in their journey to a successful natural conception.

My love affair with reflexology grew further when I qualified in RLD (Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage – Reflexology) – see www.reflexologylymphdrainage.co.uk for more details of this amazing treatment option and shortly after I was also endorsed by the prestigious Association of Reflexologists.

In 2008 I began having Bio-energy Therapy treatments myself to further support my health and became so impressed by it that I eventually I completed my Level 2 Practitioner training in Bio- Energy Healing and can honestly say it has proved to be the best addition to my practice to date.

The more I worked with clients the more strongly I felt the connection between good nutrition and optimum health is so to complement my Kinesiology training I went on to qualify as a Naturopathic Nutritional Advisor with the Natural Healthcare College.
